Just pre-ordered 3 copies through Amazon. I LOVED this book so much! I will write a very positive review on Amazon when it launches. Chip, I am so proud of you for writing this story about a very adversarial time in your life. It was so well written. The way each episode was described had me feeling every emotion you were experiencing! I read it on a 6 hour flight to Los Angeles to visit my son. I HATE flying, because of the cramped confines of no personal space in seating! Once I started reading your book, I was totally captivated, which made that long flight go by so quickly! In fact, I wasn’t quite finished when we landed, so I was irritated that I had to stop reading, then get off the damn plane! Your story touched me deeply with every emotion possible. Reading your story had me right in the trenches with you. The ending was such a sweet, comforting surprise when you finally found peace! I want to gift your book to everyone I know. Bought some extra copies for my two sons.
I haven’t seen you since high school. Always thought of you as a good friend. What a lovely way to reconnect through your book. Wishing you much success in the sale of your book. When I see others reading it, it will be so fun for me to say, “Hey, I know that guy!”
Wishing you continued peace and happiness.
Max's book chronicles his experiences and challenges in Haiti, a land he went to help but which almost killed him more than once. He found spiritual insight and life lessons, but he paid a very high price. This account of his adventures will stay with you.
Max's debut novel, "Killing Haitians" A Mission Through Hell is a compelling account of his mission trip to Haiti conveyed in descriptive and raw detail. Max describes his encounters, experiences and relationships in a manner which leaves the reader feeling they are a companion on his journey. If you are an audio book "reader", you will discover the book is narrated by the author which lends even more authenticity and drama to accounts shared. Proportionally few individuals in modern societies have the opportunity to directly experience cultures and nations such as Haiti. This book is an eye opener!
Killing Haitians grabs you right from the beginning. Max Sconyers writes from the heart, and has an uncanny gift of describing detail. What is in his mind, come into vivid pictures within the pages of this book; he takes you with him on his trip to Haiti. The story itself is a cannonball . A trial of oneself. A lesson in heartbreak, and the lengths we go to to run from pain, and ultimately find our redemption.
